About Super Junior M

Short Version:
Super Junior M is the third official sub-unit of the Korean boy band Super Junior.
They sing in Mandarin Chinese (hence the M) and focus on the Chinese music market. They are currently under SM Entertainment and Avex Taiwan.

The In Depth Story:
Super Junior M is a boy band that is truly unique in China. Super Junior M contains seven members that are either Chinese or Korean, something previously unseen in the Chinese market. They are a sub unit of Korean super boy band Super Junior and they instead of singing Korean like the former and other the sub units that have been spawned from Super Junior, sing in Mandarin Chinese. They as well have a unique beginning and history.

Pre – Debut Troubles:
Super Junior M had a trouble filled debut.  Super Junior M being a sub unit of the well established Korean boy band Super Junior is the first and currently only sub unit to feature members that are not from the original band Super Junior.  This resulted in massive protest and a strong fan movement called Only13 (and to a lesser degree Only5).

Still to this day Only13 remains but not to the same extent it first had and the desire to “destroy Super Junior M” no longer remains prevalent. This sentiment normally only returns during times of distress in fandom, such as the leader of Super Junior M’s lawsuit against his management company, and tends to disappears quickly.

The First Album: Me (迷)
Super Junior M’s first album released in Chinese.
Songs Promoted: U (remake of the Korean hit U originally done by Super Junior), At Least I Still Have You, Me
Listen to the Promoted Songs: (we recommend the live version of At Least I Still Have You)

Brief History of the Me Era:
Despite strong resistance on the Korean end (and on the Chinese end though they had no rallies that made news) Super Junior M manages to capture the limelight and put it squarely on themselves. The boys managed to walk away with numerous awards, decent sales, a decent reputation, and their name more well known to the Chinese market. The two members added to the unit also managed to grab a loyal fan base of their own though comparably smaller than their fellow band mates that have been in the industry as top stars in Korea longer. The two fan bases for the two newbies are now widely known as Strings and Honey. Super Junior M’s leader also manages to grab a staring role in the drama “Stage of Youth”.

The First Mini Album: Super Girl
Super Junior M’s first mini album in Chinese.
Songs Promoted: Super Girl, Blue Tomorrow
Listen to the promoted songs: (we recommend Super Girl for upbeat/dance track lovers and Blue Tomorrow for ballad lovers)

Brief History of the Super Girl era:
This mini album was met with much less resistance than their previous album and was their first work not to contain any Chinese remakes of songs from the main band Super Junior. With this mini album Super Junior M is still winning awards and has furthered their place in the Chinese market though Super Junior M is still noticeably less popular than Super Junior as a whole. Sadly, in the Super Girl era Super Junior M’s problems have not disappeared. Rather, Super Junior M has gained a slew of new problems they are as of June 2010 still working out. Also with these new problems the Only13 issue came up again briefly with the two non-Super Junior members being targeted for things simply out of their control. This time around though they were only subjected to chanting in China with other countries, including Korea, more than willing to cheer for them.

The Current (post Super Girl era):
Super Girl promotions were cut slightly short due to the lawsuit filed by Super Junior M’s leader in order to have his contract terminated from his management company (SM Entertainment). Both he, the members, and fans are awaiting the results of his case. Super Junior M’s leader has currently been doing light projects in China without Super Junior M due to the case. It was strongly hinted by three of the members that Super Junior M despite the lawsuit has a new album in the works. One of Non-Super Junior members also is currently doing light work as well by MCing a show called Korea Impression. The band as a whole remains quiet while Super Junior is currently promoting it’s 4th album Bonamana in Korea.
