What is Third Chapter?

The Third Chapter Project, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit collaboration of African-based experts and international professionals providing access to educational and humanities/social sciences e-resources to African students, focusing on the production of local research, indigenous knowledge, and infrastructure for publishing in Africa. The Third Chapter’s mission is to support the flow of knowledge into and out of Africa to bridge the gap between the Global North and South.

Who do your donations help? 

Students

The Third Chapter delivers educational e-resources produced by African scholars & educators, and current/seminal work from the rest of the world for student populations throughout the continent and the 140 million worldwide African diasporas.  The goal is to decolonize knowledge for African students and those around the world.

Institutions

Librarians at 1,200 African institutions will be able to help students access Third Chapter resources through a hybrid sliding scale membership/open access model, ensuring equitable access for all. By building infrastructure to support global access to indigenous knowledge and African scholarship, institutions and students across the globe will benefit from your support.

authors & Publishers

Authors and publishers in Africa see their work underrepresented both geographically on the continent and worldwide, and further inadequate representation across the disciplines that make up the humanities and social science fields. The Third Chapter’s model looks to address these issues.
